Okay. My name is Joel John and my age is 21 years old and I am member of the group Shared Space.

 

Interviewer

Perfect. And what first inspired you to join Shared Space?

 

Joel John

Actually by someone’s reference, I came here and the first day I worked here with the members of the Shared Space and I enjoyed working with them and getting experience to work here in the Shared Space. And even until now, I’m very happy to work as a volunteer in the Shared Space.

 

Interviewer

Awesome. How long have you been volunteering here?

 

Joel John

It’s almost going to be one month and 10 days.

 

 

 

Interviewer

Wow. So what is your main job here? Like what do you do as a volunteer when you’re here?

 

Joel John

Full price check the clothes.

 

Interviewer

Okay, cool.

 

Joel John

Yes, like some help if they need my help. Any like, heavy things so I can help them with the things.

 

Interviewer

Okay. Perfect. Have you gotten to do a couple different things since being here or do you mainly stick to the same?

 

Joel John

Oh, the same. Yes.

Interviewer

Okay, cool. And do you have any favourite memories of volunteering here so far?

 

Joel John

Yes, I got, I think before two weeks there was a Shared Space party.

 

Interviewer

Oh, cool.

 

Joel John

So we enjoyed that a lot with them and I enjoyed the food, the party’s games and singing. They have singing, they have got dancing.

 

Interviewer

Oh, wow.

 

Joel John

So we enjoyed a lot. We have some pictures with them.

 

Interviewer

Okay, cool. Did you sing?

 

Joel John

No, I haven’t. <laugh> I haven’t.

Interviewer

Oh right, okay. Have you done any other volunteering in your life or is this one of your first?

 

Joel John

No, it’s my first.

 

Interviewer

Joel John

It’s my first experience, but I’m getting the good experience in this.

 

Interviewer

Okay. Would you say you like volunteering? Yeah.

 

Joel John

Interviewer

Volunteer? What specifically do you find yourself liking about it?

 

Joel John

For the volunteer, the mind will divert to some other places. Like in a room, we are a busy body. So it will help like, [manage] stress. So this is better to work as a volunteer so the mind will divert to other place.

 

Interviewer

Okay, cool.

 

Joel John

And we’ll get some experience also.

 

Interviewer

Okay, cool. Yes. Do you have any advice for other people who are starting volunteering?

 

Joel John

Yeah, I will have advice for them. If they are like old people, you know, some they are retired from the jobs. So if they are bored at home, like if they’re only using the mobile phones or anything, like they’re just reading the book, so they need to come and do as a volunteer work to get their mind relaxed with the people and they will enjoy it a lot, and they will get some experience also.

Joel John

Actually, I have some problem. I’m coming with my mom and sister for the volunteer. Yes. Before I was alone, so I get them to come here. Oh wow.

 

Interviewer

Oh wow. So how did you discover it?

 

Joel John

I go to church. So there I got the name. I will not mention the person’s name. So he told me that “You like to volunteer work, so I will give you the reference.” So he just told me this. So after that I told my mother and sister to come here.

 

Interviewer

So, now you guys all do it?

 

Joel John

Yeah, now we all.
