We had the pleasure of interviewing Beryl at the Friends of Ealing Hospital three years ago for the Friends Voices Project and now at At 103 years old, it’s great to see that she is still going strong.
Meet the world’s oldest female volunteer according to Guinness World Records, who continues to serve her community at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, Ealing Hospital’s Friends Café every week.
Beryl started volunteering in 2003 when she was 80, preparing food and working on the till. Over two decades later, she’s still going strong, proving that age truly is just a number.
‘By volunteering you’re helping other people, but in a funny way you’re also helping yourself,’ Beryl reflects. She credits volunteering with giving her ‘a new lease on life’ and recommends it to people of any age.
