Friends of Amarna House

North Yorkshire, York

The Friends of Amarna House support the work of the home.  Situated in the heart of a residential community in the historic city of York. Amarna House is an 80 bedded care home offering a range of care including Dementia, Nursing and Residential care.

The Friends aim to improve the quality of life of the residents of the care home by working with staff, residents and relatives.

The Friends of Amarna House are looking to develop services on the site. We have found that this is particularly valued by some residents who through deteriorating health do not have the confidence to come out of their rooms. Alongside this, we support the care homes’ activities’ coordinators by providing extra pairs of hands during organised activity sessions and outings.

2013

On the 1st of November the Friends of Amarna House held their inaugural meeting and elected a committee.

2014

A team of young people from the Princes Trust chose Amarna House as their Final Challenge Community Project. They spent 4 days with the residents participating in a variety of activities such as craft sessions, sing-songs and gardening.

2018

A grant from Awards for All allows the Friends to launch a music project where residents can develop musical skills.

Stories from Friends of Amarna House

It's just an absolute delight to be part of it, and to be a Friend of Amarna House. It gives me great pleasure every year. Introducing students from my school to the care home, and seeing the pleasure, and anticipation of them each time we visit is amazing.
