League of Friends of Glangwili Hospital

The League of Friends of Glangwili Hospital, founded in 1949, is a charitable organisation that raises funds to support the patients and staff of Glangwili Hospital, while also encouraging public interest and involvement in their work. Their goal is to enhance the hospital environment through the purchase of medical equipment, patients comforts, and facility improvements. Since 1971, the League has raised over £2 million through community events including fairs, raffles, memorial donations, and tractor runs.

‘Friends of the Infirmary Association’ renamed ‘League of Friends of the Glangwili Hospital’

1950

Officially joined the National Association of Leagues of Hospital Friends and was amongst the first and largest.

Five long standing members have received the prestigious Order of Mercy medal for their valued voluntary services over the year.

Stories from League of Friends of Glangwili Hospital

After numerous volunteering experiences, including with a youth organisation Sarah took on the role of Chair of the League of Friends at Glangwili Hospital. As Chair, her role involves a wide range of tasks: maintaining order during meetings, organising activities, and ensuring that the League works collaboratively, rather than in opposition, with the Health Authority.

For Arthur, becoming the Deacon in the local chapel in Carmarthen meant he had to take on the role of Treasurer in the League of Friends of Glangwili Hospital.

Contributing to numerous charities since the 1980s, Delyth has been involved in her community for a long time.

Growing up in Carmarthen, Stacie has always felt a strong connection to her local community, and a deep motivation to give back in any way she could. Already working for the Glangwili Hospital Health Board, and closely involved with the League of Friends, she didn’t hesitate to volunteer when she saw a poster calling for more support.
